ExoVasc® PEARS

ExoVasc® Personalised External Aortic Root Support (PEARS)

ExoVasc® PEARS

The ExoVasc® PEARS is a patient-led innovation in the form of an implant that is placed around the ascending aorta. It provides support to the patient’s own aorta and aortic valve and is designed to prevent aortic dilation, dissection and rupture.

Surgical centres

The procedure for implanting the ExoVasc® PEARS is offered in over 40 centres in the UK, Europe and the rest of the world. It is not currently available for sale in the USA.

Patient stories

More than 1,100 people have had an ExoVasc® PEARS implanted. Some of them have shared their stories and experiences before and after surgery. You can read their stories here.

About Exstent

The ExoVasc® PEARS was developed by Tal Golesworthy, an engineer with Marfan syndrome, to provide an alternative to aortic root replacement surgery.

Exstent aims to make a difference to the lives of people with aortic dilation. Our goal is to allow patients to live free from worry, without need for anticoagulant therapy and reduce the risk of requiring further surgery.

Patient stories

Scott Meikle

“Post discharge, I returned to Scotland to stay with my wonderful brother and sister-in-law, Matt and Elaine, for a fortnight while I recovered my energy. Genuinely, pain was only a very small problem indeed (discomfort is a better word, really).”
Date of procedure: 2013
Age: 40

Sofia

“I’m finally back to working full time and enjoying family life, often forgetting I’ve ever even had a heart surgery. Life is not the same as it used to – I still have to balance things much more carefully than I used to in order to manage the issues I was left with – but it’s not worse either. And most importantly, I know I’m no longer at risk of an ascending aortic rupture – a crisis that took my dad away from us way too early. So, If I had to choose again, I would do it all over again. Best of luck to you with your big decision!”
Date of procedure: 2020
