ExoVasc® PEARS

A story that reminds us why the work matters

A recent article published in Medisch Contact shared a story that resonated deeply with the Exstent team.

Written by Dave Koolbergen and medical student Féline Polman, the article follows an unexpected connection spanning fifteen years.

As a child, Féline watched her father go through repeated heart surgery. Years later, during a clinical placement at Amsterdam UMC, she found herself standing beside the surgeon who had treated him. Their reunion brought back a drawing and thank you note she had written as a child that read, “Thank you for making my daddy better.”

Alongside this personal story sits another connection.

The article reflects on how experiences with challenging aortic cases helped shape interest in alternative approaches, including PEARS, and the wider impact these experiences can have on patients, families and future generations of clinicians.

Stories like this often reach beyond procedures and technology.

Sometimes they appear years later.

Sometimes in the people they helped shape.
