On 1 November 2025 Tal Golesworthy was one of more than 6,000 people who took part in the 25-km 11 Beach Walk organised by the Dutch Heart Foundation to raise money for cardiovascular disease research.

Also on the walk were Dave Koolbergen of Amsterdam AMC, who was the first heart surgeon in the Netherlands to perform the PEARS procedure on a patient, and several PEARS recipients, including Richard Krajicek.

They were taking part as members of Whole Heart Peers, a team made up of people with congenital heart defects, doctors, nurses and loved ones. Speaking about the team, Dave Koolbergen said: “You never undergo heart surgery alone. As a patient, you are surrounded by medical experts — from the surgeon to the surgical assistant — as well as by caring friends and family. Thanks to all their support, recovery often progresses even faster.”

The 11-beach tour is a challenging tour along 11 Dutch beaches over 12.5, 25 or 50 kilometres. The event raises money for research into cardiovascular disease, one of the leading causes of death in the Netherlands. This year’s event put the spotlight on hereditary heart disease.
